The demise of 59 Chinese apps in India has encouraged many Indian companies to fill the void. Zee5 is one such OTT platform that is all set to become the next sensation. It is going to launch HiPi- a video sharing platform for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.
Zee5 is well known for its media streaming services and already has millions of users. Hipi will not be launched as a separate app but as a tool within the Zee5 app. HiPi is being tested and will be launched in the next 30-45 days – that means around September.
According to the company, “The name HiPi comes from the vision of a youthful and carefree planet where everyone can express themselves with freedom and confidence. A fun place where users can uninhibitedly and unapologetically be themselves without the fear of being judged. ZEE5’s HiPi is driven by the vision to encourage self-expression and it aims to unlock the potential talent that this country has by inviting talented and diverse content creators who are seeking a platform that encourages creativity and paves the way to stardom.”
HiPi will allow users to create videos of 90-second duration. It promises to entertain users and enable them to unleash their creativity to the fullest. However, HiPi will have to face tough competition against Indian apps like Roposo (50 million downloads), Mitron TV (10 million downloads), Chingari (3.5 million downloads), and others.
