Safe rooms and concrete storm shelters – weather resistance

Watching 24-hour news and apocalyptic musings on the History Channel and Discovery can be terrifying. This heightened fear may leave some wondering if they should do more to protect themselves at home.
Can we make our homes safe enough to withstand nature’s worst storms?
Storms are occasional. In 2004 and 2005 we saw their explosive growth in America. We have seen and many have experienced the devastation of these events. Today’s homes are built to withstand very strong winds, even if they are designed for moderate blast shelters . To be fair, a Category 4 or 5 hurricanes can still destroy a home; although it is built by today’s standards.
Evacuation remains the best way to avoid the full impact of these megastores. But if no one can get out, there is a way to provide a high level of protection – and that is by creating a safe space. They are also known as storm shelters.
A safe room is a small windowless room reinforced
to withstand air pressure and airborne debris from extreme weather conditions. They are especially common in Florida and other hurricane states.
A relatively inexpensive hurricane shelter can give you and your family a sense of security knowing that you have a place in your home that can withstand the worst of a storm. They can also act as a tornado shelter.
What is a safe room? It is basically a small room in a house
With special walls, ceilings, connection systems and doors and (to use the technical term) they are really strong and provide protection for you and your loved ones, even though these fears can be important. Purpose. Events. I designed the section myself for people who value space, even if they don’t use it themselves. Sounds like a lot of insurance, right?
These spaces can be separate or part of the house, such as a walk-in closet built like the proverbial smelly brick house. They need to be separated from the main structure so that the main structure becomes a mess and becomes countless pieces like this small room. The oasis remains untouched.
The best way to do this is to build a concrete shelter
on top of the ground with reinforced masonry walls, and all the cells (the holes you see in the concrete blocks) are filled with rebar and concrete. We usually build and install concrete roofs here. It can be quite cheap if you build your own storm shelters for homes the structure is easy to use.
One of my clients asked me to design their wardrobe and bathroom into a safe space. The roof was designed as concrete and rested directly under the lower chord of the truss. The rapids may fly and the whole house may collapse, but he and his family are safe.
