BioFit is positioned primarily as a natural diet pill for gut health and weight loss. However, Nature’s Formulas claims that you can experience all the other benefits by taking BioFit daily:
– Improved digestion
– Reduced bloating
– Weight loss
– Boosted immunity
Research shows that probiotics support healthy digestion, which can lead to all of the above benefits. Some studies show that probiotics help cleanse the skin and support the body’s natural detoxification, among other unique benefits.
Obviously, the full strength of the BioFit formula lies in the probiotics. However, with this formula’s emphasis on weight management and digestion, we have decided to focus only on these two aspects of health.
As briefly mentioned, probiotics come in different genera and types. The most common types are Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Saccharomyces, Streptococcus, Enterococcus, Escherichia and Bacillus. Although these genera usually have a positive effect on the gastrointestinal tract, some of them may have a greater effect on the intestinal microbiota or even the oral microbiota. Interestingly, each genus in combination with a particular species has a different effect on the organism [1].
That said, UAS Labs [2] insists that two genera are the most important for healthy digestion, immune health and obesity control: Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium. To find out if BioFit meets these basic needs, below is the list of ingredients.
How does BioFit work?
BioFit contains probiotic bacteria, which are the “good” bacteria that live in the digestive tract. These good bacteria play essential roles in the intestines. They support digestion, help break down food and help separate the bad compounds from the good.
Research shows that about 70% of your immune system is found in the gut. Good gut health leads to good immune health. Some people take probiotics daily to boost their immune system.
Other people take probiotics to improve digestion and weight loss. Probiotics can help your body digest food more efficiently. It is also possible that probiotics support regular digestion, helping you physically lose weight.
Obviously, probiotics can be purchased in much cheaper supplements – or in yogurt and other foods. Why does BioFit cost so much? Why does BioFit advertise different benefits than other probiotics sold online today?
The makers of BioFit place a high value on the types of probiotics in its formula. The company claims to use “a specially formulated strain of Lactobacillus for maximum results.”
How do BioFit probiotics help with weight loss?
BioFit contains seven strains of probiotic bacteria, including four from the Lactobacillus family. Each strain is associated with different effects.
Each serving of BioFit contains 5.75 billion colony forming units (CFU) of live probiotic organisms. This may seem like a high dose, but it is similar to what is found in other probiotic supplements.
In fact, yogurt must contain at least 1 billion CFUs to be labeled as “probiotic” yogurt. So each serving of BioFit is like six servings of probiotic yogurt.
At any given time, there are over 100 billion bacteria in your body. Your body needs more bacteria to maintain overall health.
It’s not quite clear how many CFUs BioFit contains until you see the full presentation. The label specifically states that it contains “5.75 billion organisms” of probiotic bacteria. However, the BioFit product page mentions that “BioFit contains over 40 billion CFUs.” It is unclear which label is correct. Some competing probiotics have dosages as high as 100 billion CFU. However, we assume that BioFit contains more than 40 billion CFU per serving, making it a very strong contender compared to other supplements.
Types of Probiotic Bacteria in BioFit
BioFit uses seven strains of probiotic bacteria, including four strains of Lactobacillus, one strain of Bacillus and two strains of Bifidobacterium.
Each type of probiotic strain supposedly supports different aspects of health and wellness.
Below, BioFit explains the benefits of each family of probiotic bacteria:
Lactobacillus: BioFit claims that the four powerful Lactobacillus strains in BioFit “work like a supermix” to help support bacteria throughout the body. In fact, BioFit claims that the four Lactobacillus strains are the same bacteria that are “naturally present in the human digestive, urinary and sexual systems,” while Natures Formula claims that its Lactobacillus “reduces harmful bacteria and stimulates digestion.”
Bacillus Subtilis: BioFit relies heavily on a special strain of bacteria called Bacillus subtilis. Lactobacillus bacteria are common in most probiotic foods – including yogurt. Bacillus subtilis, however, is less common. Natures Formula seems to suggest that Bacillus subtilis is particularly associated with weight loss. The BioFit sales page claims that this strain “sprouts in the gut as a [sic] probiotic,” helping to maintain overall gut health.
Bifidobacteria: BioFit contains two strains of bifidobacteria, including Bifidobacterium longum and Bifidobacterium breve. Bifidobacterium longum is another common probiotic strain found in many probiotic supplements. Natures Formulas describes Bifidobacterium longum as a “multifunctional probiotic” that can stabilize the gut microbiota and improve the gut environment.
With its unique combination of probiotic strains, BioFit claims to support powerful benefits – including significant weight loss. Each serving of BioFit (i.e., 1 capsule) provides 5.75 billion colony forming units (CFUs). This corresponds to the recommended daily dose of 1 to 10 billion CFUs. With this in mind, the different types of probiotic strains included in the BioFit proprietary blend are listed below.
