The future of German beer culture
Denizens, a German craft beer company based in Portland, is preparing to brew, roast, and ferment 150,000 pounds of beer for the 2023 Oktoberfest. It is not yet known which breweries will be involved with the 2023 event, but the company says more will be announced in the future.
Denizens partnered with some of Germany’s finest breweries for the tasting session. The brewer described the experience as “a celebration of Germany’s original beer culture, mixing it up with beer innovation in the most delicious way.”

So when is the best time to travel to Germany and drink the best beers? It depends, of course, on what type of beer you prefer. The fact is, while some places are better for beer than others, it’s not always about a specific season. If you’re looking for some authentic beer, try the Oktoberfest.
“Oktoberfest 2023 is the most widely celebrated celebration of German culture, and it’s the perfect introduction to the cultural nuances of the region,” said Christopher Stovall of CheapAir.com. “People who have never visited Germany will probably have no clue what beer goes best with a bratwurst. The best place to begin is the Oktoberfest.”
In Germany, Oktoberfest officially takes place from September 12 through October 6, but the festival has been celebrated since October 1, 1810, when Emperor Wilhelm I signed a proclamation that established the first official annual celebration. The Bavarian monarch wanted to honor his military friends. “The Bavarian monarch decided to throw a big party in honor of the Bavarian troops and their victories,” said Tom Wilkinson, author of “The Oktoberfest.”
