Turkish four-party alliance to sign agreement
Four opposition political parties in Turkey are to sign an alliance agreement on Thursday, broadcaster NTV said.
The leaders of the Republican People’s Party, Good Party, Felicity Party and Democratic Party – to be called the Nation Alliance as opposed to the government’s Popular Alliance – are to come together tomorrow at 3 pm to sign an alliance agreement, the pro-government station said.
Each party will put up its own candidate in the presidential election, where a second round will be held if no candidate achieves more than 50 percent of the vote.
However, they will form a parliamentary alliance under new rules designed by the governing Justice and Development Party, which has itself formed an alliance with the far-right Nationalist Movement Party.
The prospective allies have to submit their alliance to the Supreme Electoral Council by May 6, the broadcaster said.
