Essential Specifics to Know About the Types of Welding Machines

A welding machine is an instrument that generates heat to melt metals making it easier for the metals to be connected permanently. If you want to know more about welding machines, this is the article for you!

Introduction

Welding machines play an important role in making work easier for welders and other people who need a quick fix. However, different processes require different welding machines. This means that there are several types of these machines. Here are the most common types of welding machines.

Types of Welding Machines

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)

The GMAW uses an electric arc between a metal and an electrode to generate heat that melts the metals allowing connections to other pieces. It is commonly used in auto industries for exhaust repair and buildings. It has electrode wires which are solid and shielding gas both traveling through the gun. The purpose of the shielding gas is to prevent any type of contamination.

Submerged Arc Welding (SAW)

Justly, it uses electricity to connect materials i.e. metals by generating a large amount of heat to melt the metals. It is mostly applicable in electrical pipes and turbines. It has to accommodate several parts that ensure it functions effectively. i.e. electrode holder, metal base, source of power, and a granular or powdered flux which helps to limit the quantity of heat generated. The possibility of the flux being recycled makes it minimize waste and the machine can be accessed at an affordable welding machine price in Kenya.

Flux- Cored Arc Welding (FCAW)

FCAW is mostly used in the welding of thicker metals such as cast iron and carbon steel. It uses a continuous power supply to produce heat. It is efficient for both indoor and outdoor activities as it has an electrode filled with flux. The flux shield acts as a protector against unfavorable weather conditions.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW)

Just like any other, GTAW uses electricity as the source of power to produce heat. The difference comes in because GTAW uses a tungsten electrode. This type of welding machine is mostly preferably suited for light metals and stainless steel. With the misgiving of not being automated and slower, it ends up acquiring a higher welding machine price in Kenya.

Atomic Hydrogen Welding (AHW)

AHW uses a tungsten electrode as GTAW, the only difference is that AHW uses a shielding hydrogen gas with AC as the most preferred power source. Hydrogen gas breaks down into its atomic form, absorbing a lot of heat in the process which in turn releases enough energy to form bonds when connected to a cold surface. AHW is not as commonly used compared to the other welding processes due to its high cost. It can be used in the welding of both thick and thin metals.

Conclusion

Generally, welding machines are among the most important appliances used by different industries. This is because the appliances reduce the welding process by half, saving on time wasted and can use the minimum effort possible. These welding machines have put the welding industries in a better position of getting quality work done within the shortest time possible.
