Corona Has Killed Another Well-Famed Cricketer from Delhi: Sanjoy Dobal

It is another heart-wrenching news to know that former well-known Delhi Club Cricket and former Delhi U-23 support staff Sanjoy Dobal has left his family of 2 sons (elder Siddhant, who plays first-class cricket for Rajasthan and younger Ekansh, who made his debut for Delhi U-23 side) and his wife at the age of 53 due to Covid-19 on Monday morning. He was a cricket coach after his highs in life.
Mithun Manhas, a Delhi cricketer said: “My friend Sanjay Dobal was suffering from a severe case of pneumonia. After four tests and three weeks later, he was detected with COVID-19. Due to late detection and several bilateral pneumonia, his lungs had suffered a major blow, hence doctor had suggested plasma therapy. We, therefore, are looking for a patient who have recovered from COVID-19 at least 20 days ago and are willing to donate blood.”
Sanjoy Dobal has shown a few symptoms of corona a week back when he was rushed to Bahadurgarh medical facility soon after. During another test, he was found positive for Covid-19 and due to his deteriorating condition, he was moved further to Dwarka Hospital where he was given plasma treatment too, which dint work quite well for him as per DDCA’s official statement.
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is also shocked and saddened by Sanjoy Dobal’s sudden demise.

“Sanjay Dobal’s untimely death is devastating news for the cricketing world. On behalf of the DDCA, I extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences on the irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family at this sad time. May god give strength to the family to overcome the loss” Vinod Tihara, DDCA Secretary said in a statement.
Former Indian cricketers, Gautam Gambhir, Mithun Manhas, and Aakash Chopra also appealed on social media firstly for plasma donors, which was arranged by Aam Aadmi Party MLA Dilip Pandey and later after his demise appealed for people to help Sanjoy Dobal’s surviving family in any way possible which can provide some relief to them at this moment in time.
Sanjoy Dobal was a very familiar figure at the Feroz Shah Kotla and he was popular among the well-known Delhi cricketers like Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Mithun Manhas. He has played for the famous Sonnet Club and was coached by Tarak Sinha. While he didn’t play in the Ranji Trophy but was deeply associated with coaching junior cricketers. He was also served as local manager for India vs. England women’s Test at Jamia in the last decade.
Sanjoy Dobal was a prominent figure in the Delhi cricket circuit. He was Coached by the renowned Tarak Sinha, Sanjoy Dobal used to play for the prestigious Sonnet Cricket club, from where the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ashish Nehra, Manoj Prabhakar, Aakash Chopra and Rishabh Pant have emerged, an HT report said.
